Advice on options for IdeaTorrent hosting
nobodysbusiness — Wed, 01/07/2009 - 23:07
I'm interested in using IdeaTorrent for a fledgeling open-source project. I started off with uservoice.com (just because it was an easy option), but there are several major stumbling blocks with the way that it works. I think that IdeaTorrent is the best solution, although it will require a little more investment up front.
My question is: what should I do with regards to hosting? Are there any high-quality (hopefully cheap) hosting providers that support the software needed for IdeaTorrent?
Also, since this is for an open-source project, are there any free project hosting websites that could support IdeaTorrent? I know that several sites (Sourceforge, for example) offer site-hosting for their projects. However, I don't know which project hosting websites (if any) support the software that IdeaTorrent needs (Drupal, PostgreSQL, etc...).
Thanks for any advice.

Hosting

http://www.ovh.co.uk/individual/products/rps1.xml
It's 10 euros/months, and you have your own server for you with full ssh access (the drawback for this price are the harddrive that are shared via network). You have a large choice of OS. I did install Ubuntu Hardy, and if you know a little about command line, you can easily all the software needed (there may be a interface for that, I didn't checked).
Concerning performance, I'm running this website, demo.ideatorrent.org, devel.ideatorrent.org, www.ndeschildre.net, pidgin.ideatorrent.org and a few others hosts without problems.
Note that I'm thinking about setting up some free hosting for Ideatorrent, but that won't be in the short term.
